KU HTS Services
The High-Throughput Screening Laboratory is a core facility of University of Kansas, Lawrence and KU Medical Center that strives to provide researchers with the ability to run high-throughput chemical, siRNA, and high-content screens (HCS). The center incorporates compound libraries, instrumentation, databases and personnel.
The High-Throughput Screening Laboratory is available for use by academic and private researchers to conduct biochemical and cell-based high throughput screens (HTS) to discover the effects of small molecules on targets of choice. The KU HTS can facilitate screening compound libraries in 96- and 384-well formats for both enzyme/protein and cell-based assays using industry-standard instrumentation and screening facilities. The data from all screens performed here are collected and stored in a secure, central database to allow researchers to rapidly evaluate and compare results of their screens.
Screening Facility
The HTS screening center is located in Structural Biology Center (SBC)-III complex on Lawrence campus. For directions, see Contact page. The screening center offers the following services:
1. Discussion on screening goals, assays and instrument compatibility.
2. Primary assay optimization and data analysis including protocols and selection of controls.
3. Validation screening of a small library with a robust optimized assay.
4. Screening the complete library of compounds.
5. Data analysis and storage.
6. Secondary screen development and/or screening of primary hits.
7. Plating various dilutions of compounds and siRNA libraries.
8. Training on HTS instruments.
The Director of the HTS center at KU can provide letters of recommendation for those seeking financial support to defray the costs associated with the screening of small-molecule library. We can provide information about the compounds and instruments for grant submission. We can also assist in making your grant more competitive by generating some preliminary results using optimized assay to screen a small subset of our library collection.
The screening facility offers the following equipment and resources for use by researchers. Users can reserve HTS equipment in HTS facility via a web-based reservation system.
- Plate readers with luminescence, fluorescence, fluorescence polarization, time-resolved fluorescence, and absorbance detection capability.
- Liquid handling robots.
- Tissue culture hoods and incubators.
- Multichannel pipettes.
- Plate Sealer and Bar Code Labeler.
- Hoods and incubators for microbe handling and growth.
